Iran Ambassador Meets with Sierra Leonean MP after Visit to Iran
On Wednesday May 8 H.E Mr. Sadati Amiri the Ambassador of I.R. Iran in Freetown met with Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray the representative of Moyamba district and member of the parliamentary committee on trade and industry along with Mohamed Koroma the principal clerk of committees.
Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray paid this courtesy call to present a report on his recent trip to Iran and his participation in the Iran-Africa Economic Cooperation Conference as well as IRAN EXPO 2024, and shared his experience and observations during this trip.
While expressing appreciation for the hospitality of Iranian government and people and the quality of reception and accommodation, the member of the parliament pointed to meeting with a number of heads of Iranian companies and industries, “I got to know Iran's capabilities to some extent. I will diligently reflect the areas of joint cooperation to Sierra Leonean officials and business people.” Expressing his surprise at the progress of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added: “The government of Sierra Leone is faced with various challenges, some of which can certainly be overcome through cooperation with Iran.”
Mr. Sadati extended appreciation to the Sierra Leonean delegation for the courtesy call and suggested it would be a good idea to share a detailed report of the trip to Iran and the firsthand observations of the country’s progress to Sierra Leonean authorities; and that the publication of such a report in Sierra Leone media will be very useful for the business community of Salone who are interested in starting a relationship with Iran.
The ambassador also pointed to the prominent role of the parliament in familiarizing Sierra Leonean authorities and people with the commercial and industrial capabilities of Iran, and called for the activation of the parliamentary friendship group between the two countries and said: the formation of such a group can be a platform for introducing the capabilities of both parties by consolidating friendly relations.
Hon. Mansaray welcomed the ambassador’s ideas and committed to following up on the matter of the parliamentary friendship group and passing on his observations of Iranian capacities to the relevant parties. Regarding Iran's capabilities in various fields, the MP emphasized that Sierra Leone needs advanced agriculture to ensure food security and materialize Feed Salone, and Iran can train the youth of the country in the field of agriculture and related areas, including irrigation.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reiterated their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and called for effective steps in this regard.
