Establishment of Iran-Sierra Leone Parliamentary Friendship Group

On December 11 2024 H.E Mr. Sadati Amiri the Ambassador of I.R. Iran in Freetown met with Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray the representative of Moyamba district regarding the establishment of Iran-Sierra Leone Parliamentary Friendship group.

During this meeting, Hon. Mansaray delivered a letter by the Clerk of Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone announcing the establishment of the Iran-Sierra Leone Parliamentary Friendship group within the parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

This development came on the back of a few-month-long constructive interaction between the Embassy of I.R. Iran in Freetown and the Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone which included several high-level meetings as well as two visits by Sierra Leonean Parliamentary delegations to Tehran on various occasions earlier this year.

The Parliamentary friendship group on the Iranian side, already established about a month ago, have expressed interest in visiting Freetown to consult with their Sierra Leonean counterparts on numerous issues of mutual interest in line with strengthening parliamentary diplomacy towards expanding bilateral ties for the benefit of both nations, particularly Sierra Leone.

Each parliamentary friendship group is comprised of 9 MPs who at the same time maintain other important positions within their respective parliaments. These parliamentary groups can act as conduits to lay the groundwork for enhancing collaboration in areas such as agriculture, education, trade, industries, etc.
